It’s risky business for Barcelona in pot two
The Champions League draw takes place tomorrow in Monaco. Unfortunately being in pot two puts Barcelona at risk of having a pretty tough grouping. There are multiple scenarios that are bad, good, or somewhere in between. So let’s take a look at the best and worst case scenarios for Barcelona in the Champions League draw.
The worst case
Being in pot two gives Barcelona the potential to be in a group with some pretty good European clubs. Here’s the three clubs that have the potential to be in a group with Barcelona, and provide the biggest risk of not advancing to the knockout stages.
Bayern Munich - Pot one
Barcelona - Pot two
Napoli- Pot three
RB Leipzig - Pot four
The best case
There’s also a scenario where Barcelona may get a kinder group which could hopefully see them finish in top spot. Here’s what that would look like.
Spartak Moscow - Pot one
Barcelona - Pot two
Anderlecht - Pot three
Maribor - Pot four
Rather interestingly there’s also the chance of Barcelona being drawn to face Liverpoool (they will go into Pot 3 should they beat Hoffenheim to qualify), which should prove interesting given the Philippe Coutinho saga.
The pots as they currently stand:
Pot One: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea, Benfica, Monaco, Spartak Moscow, Shakhtar Donetsk
Pot Two: Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris St Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Porto
Pot Three: Napoli, Tottenham, Basel, Olympiacos, Anderlecht, Roma, Besiktas, Liverpool or Celtic
Pot Four: Celtic or Hoffenheim, Feyenoord, Maribor, RB Leipzig, Copenhagen or Qarabag, APOEL or Slavia Prague, Young Boys or CSKA Moscow, Sporting Lisbon or Steaua Bucharest.
