Safe to say, we’ll believe it when we see it
It’s been a while since we’ve had news that Barcelona are “hours away” from a new signing but Lluís Miguelsanz of Sport has duly obliged by reporting that Barcelona are “very close” to bringing in Paris Saint-Germain’s Angel Di María for around €50 million.
This is all coming together just hours after Barcelona was hacked saying that they had come to an agreement with PSG and Di María.
Only in the odd reality that has been Barcelona’s 2017 summer could this transfer truly subsequently be close just hours later.
So, take this report with a pile of salt. Barcelona have been close to Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembélé, Jean Seri, and probably ten other players I’m forgetting. “Very close” in Barcelona’s summer of oddities seems to mean that the clubs are simply in talks.
If indeed the clubs are close on a deal for Di María, it’ll be another signing (much like Paulinho) that Barça fans will likely be unsatisfied with.
Not that Di María and Paulinho are on the same level, but they’re appetizers. Barça fans want the entree of Coutinho or Dembélé, and until a big transfer happens, patience continues to wear exceedingly thin.
