Barcelona will be without captain Sergio Busquets for Wednesday’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano.
The midfielder picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Atletico which brings an automatic one-match ban.
Busquets saw yellow for a grab on Thomas Lemar and will now sit out Wednesday’s trip to Vallecas.
Xavi does have plenty of midfield options without Busquets, particularly now Frenkie de Jong and Pedri have successfully returned from injury.
Franck Kessie could come into the team against Rayo, while Eric Garcia is also an option after playing in midfield earlier this season.
Rayo host Barcelona on something of a poor run. Andoni Iraola’s side have only won one of their last 10 games in La Liga.
The two teams met on the opening day of the season at the Camp Nou in a game that ended 0-0 despite Barca enjoying 70% possession and having 18 goals attempts.

Yet another clean sheet
Although the match against Atletico Madrid had the feel of an end of season ‘dead rubber’ at times, there was still enough to admire about Barcelona’s play against a perennially difficult opponent.
Let’s not forget that Cholo Simeone’s side were unbeaten in 13 before Sunday’s game, and he’d gone with a five-man defence as well as playing on the counter-attack, both of which Barca have struggled significantly with in the past.
There was the odd scary moment - two of which were supplied by ex-Barca man, Antoine Griezmann - including one in the opening minute, and Atleti were more of a threat the longer the game went on as they went in search of the equaliser.
The visitors hadn’t been behind in a game since January 8, which speaks of some quality defending again from the back four and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
For long periods Barca’s defence had the game under control and indeed, they looked at ease during various passages of play which may have given the mistaken impression that Kounde, Araujo, Alonso and Balde were a little lazy.

Comfortable might be a better description, and that lack of panic has only come about as a result of the trust between each other and a stellar campaign so far - which could end up being a record-breaking one in terms of goals conceded.
And if we’re talking about the best goalkeeper in the world right now, Ter Stegen surely has to get the nod ahead of the likes of Thibaut Courtois et al. The German has been nothing short of immaculate and he was again on Sunday as he commanded his area with aplomb.
Moving further up the pitch, what a difference it made having Frenkie de Jong back to doing what he does best. Very much a case of ‘you don’t know what you’ve got till you lose it’ in the Dutchman’s absence.
Much maligned by a fair portion of the Barca fan base, he gave the midfield the dynamism that Gavi offers, but with more control. It also allowed the hosts greater flexibility in terms of attack given de Jong’s ability to provide an option as the extra man.
Though he only played for an hour, Ferran Torres deserves a pat on the back for his industry and effervescence.
Consistently keeping his markers busy, his finish for the opener showed everyone what he’s capable of, even if we’ve seen precious little of that over the season.

He looked aggrieved to be replaced and rightly so, but what a joy to see Pedri back in his natural habitat.
The term generational talent is widely used these days, often incorrectly, but it’s a moniker that sits well on the young Spaniard’s shoulders. He is effortless on the football pitch and an utter joy to behold.
Next time Barca play, just spend a few minutes watching his movement. Nothing else, just that. He brings an entirely different perspective to any game and one that’s utterly beautiful and, dare I say it, educational.
On the opposite wing to Ferran, Raphinha was excellent. He can blow hot and cold but no one can say he didn’t give his all on Sunday. If Robert Lewandowski hadn’t been so selfish, the Brazilian would’ve bagged a goal to add to his assist, and another if he could’ve reacted better to the centre-forward’s cross.
He looked dejected to be brought off late on, and perhaps didn’t see the significance of Xavi allowing him the standing ovation that his performance deserved.

The Barca midfielders were the difference against Atletico Madrid
To absolutely no one’s surprise, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri turned Barcelona into a totally different team.
A proper Barca team.
One that can manage the tempo of a game, and break defensive lines on a whim.
This was a huge win against a confident Atleti, and a performance that was desperately needed to generate the momentum needed to cross the finish line in La Liga without unnecessary drama.
The Colchoneros came out determined to keep their win streak going behind the leadership of none other than Antoine Griezmann, who is looking like one of the best players in Europe again. The Frenchman hit the post early on, and was all over the field, looking silky in the buildup, dangerous in front of goal, and as industrious as ever defensively.

It’s too bad Barcelona couldn’t find a way to utilize his innate talents. Credit to him for bouncing back and showing the world what he’s still capable of.
This was Atletico Madrid at their best. Organized, sure of themselves, and ready to make Barcelona pay in any moment they may switch off.
The Barca defense was solid, and the forwards did indeed come alive. Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski may not be setting the world on fire, but they did their job to create chances, and deserved more on the day.
But above all else, it was the midfield that stole the show.
Sergio Busquets performed his role, Gavi was thankfully moved back into his natural position, but the return of Frenkie de Jong made Barca look like Barca again.

Watching this game was so much easier on the eyes because of the Dutchman.
The man can single-handedly carry the ball out of the back, and launch an attack in the blink of an eye. He can play between the lines, and with very limited space, create something out of nothing, forcing the opponents to back off and respect Barca on the ball.
Even when the momentum shifted in Atleti’s favor, Barcelona looked organized and calm with their unsung hero back on the battlefield.
When Pedri entered in the 60th minute, the catharsis was complete.
From box to box, Barca looked competent, and downright creative, for the first time in a long time.
The maligned forwards had their playmakers to play off, and looked much more dangerous with the time and space it created.
Pedri and Frenkie are the highest caliber of footballers that Barca has, and it shows when they play.

Maybe it’s not realistic to have replacements ready-made who can provide the same quality.
But something needs to be done to protect them going forward. Pedri in particular, who has shown he needs rest from time to time to keep him at the top of his game, and to prevent costly injuries in the future.
Xavi will need to manage their role, and find players who can step in and keep the system going in their absence.
But the system itself will also need improvements in order for the team to be able to survive when their superstars aren’t around.
The Pedri and Frenkie magic is a beautiful privilege to have at your disposal as a manager, but you can’t become dependent on it.
For now, all is well at the Camp Nou again.
We have attractive football to enjoy, and an important domestic title within arms reach.

With Andreas Christensen and Ousmane Dembele set to make their return soon, Xavi will have every weapon at his disposal to conquer Spain, with some breathing room to keep everyone fresh and ready for a new campaign just a few months away.
Don’t let these games go to waste.
Accomplish the mission quickly, and then let’s get a preview of things to come.
Lamine Yamal please. Throw him in the deep end. There’s nothing to lose, and much to gain in learning whether he has a role to play next season.
Wouldn’t mind seeing other academy players like Pablo Torre and Chadi Riad either.
Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati have done enough to earn a run of games as well, before anything conclusive is decided.
Today, we once again have affirmation of what we all already knew.
Barca needs Frenkie and Pedri fit and firing at all times.
Going into next season, that may be the most important insight of all.

Barça are back to winning ways thanks to a crucial victory at home
Barcelona restored their 11-point lead at the top of the La Liga table and retained their overwhelming favorite status in the title race thanks to a crucial 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid on Sunday afternoon. Barça played their best game in over a month, created (and missed) some huge chances and survived a late blitz from the Colchoneros to get back on track and contine their chase for the trophy.
Here are the winners and losers from Sunday’s action.
Note:Applying the labels “winners” and “losers” is not intended to be a judgment on the talent or character of any of these players. It’s just a simple way to grade their performance in a single game. No disrespect is intended.

Raphinha: The Brazilian might have just played his best 90 minutes for Barça in this one, considering the importance of the game and the level of the opposition. Raphinha was incisive and decisive every time he had the ball, aggressive and creative with his dribbling and involved in everything good Barça did all game. He assisted Ferran Torres’ winner, was unlucky not to score himself in the second half, and should have gotten a tap-in if not for Robert Lewandowski’s poor decision to go for goal himself instead of passing it to his wide-open teammate. Raphinha was La Liga’s choice for “MVP of the Game” and it’s hard to disagree. A very good afternoon for a player in desperate need of one.
Frenkie De Jong: How good does it feel to have a world-class midfielder again? How sweet it is to watch Frenkie not even have a 10 out of 10 performance but still run the show with his quick passing, timely ball carries, and excellent vision and instincts both with and without the ball. The Dutchman is a delight to watch and he’s now fully comfortable in his own skin with a clearly defined role and a great impact on the team’s attacking health. And again, he didn’t even play that well. Once the rust is gone, Frenkie will be fully back.
Ronald Araujo: Another monster defensive performance from Barça’s beast, who outmuscled everyone who came close to him and won seemingly every important aerial duel. His passing was a little inconsistent but his job is to dominate at the back, and he once again did that to perfection.
Marc-André ter Stegen: Two massive, point-blank reflex saves from MATS to keep Antoine Griezmann from scoring against his former club once in each half. Big German Makes Big Saves. Again.
Losers
NOBODY! A first for this column, but I genuinely did not think anybody’s stock went down after today’s game. Lewandowski’s selfish miss in the second half nearly landed him on this side of the bracket, but his overall performance was good enough to not make it fair to judge his entire game on a single play. Barça played well against one of the toughest teams in the league and will be even better once Pedri and De Jong are fully back to peak fitness. No reason to be pessimistic today.

An excellent performance, a dramatic finish, and three giant points
Barcelona have restored their 11-point lead at the top of the La Liga table and are back to winning ways after a three-game winless streak thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Atlético Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou. Barça played very good attacking football for over 70 minutes but scored only the one goal and had to survive a lot of pressure from the Colchoneros at the end, but found a way to win and boost their chances of finishing the job in the title race.
FIRST HALF
Atlético nearly started the game with a goal as Antoine Griezmann hit the crossbar just 30 seconds into the match, and Barça’s defense was a little shaky in the first 10 minutes. But the Blaugrana eventually settled in and began dominating possession, and Frenkie De Jong had a huge impact on his return and ran the center of the park with his passing, ball carries and vision to keep the attacks going.
Barça’s offense was quick and had good variety, but they couldn’t penetrate Atleti’s well-organized defense and the game was mostly played in the middle third without any meaningful chances for either side. There were some hard tackles and very good intensity from the two teams, but the game was lacking some individual brilliance.
Griezmann nearly provided that himself and had a huge chance to put the visitors ahead with a shot from short range, but Marc-André ter Stegen made a fantastic reflex save. Shortly after that chance, a hopeful long ball from Ronald Araujo found Raphinha on the right wing and the Brazilian made a quick move and found Ferran Torres on the edge of the box, and the Spaniard showed great poise to take a touch in traffic and perfectly place his shot into the bottom corner to give Barça the lead just seconds before halftime.
At the break, a hard-fought game had Barça ahead but Atlético were very much alive, and the second half promised some fireworks.
SECOND HALF
Barça played even better to start the second half, translating their good attacks into real scoring chances that truly tested Jan Oblak and the Atlético defense. Gavi missed two of them, Ferran had a solid effort from distance, and Robert Lewandowski fired a shot on goal and nearly gave Raphinha a tap-in that was expertly saved by Oblak, all within the first 25 minutes of the period.
But the Blaugrana couldn’t convert any of their opportunities, which left the door open for Atleti to take more risks and look for a late equalizer. Griezmann had a third golden chance that was once again saved by Ter Stegen, and as we entered the final 15 minutes the visitors felt like they had a real shot at rescuing a point.
Barça had another golden chance to add a second and seal the victory when Lewandowski found himself one-on-one with Oblak with Raphinha next to the Pole ready to receive an easy pass, but Lewy was too selfish, tried to score from a difficult angle and missed a huge opportunity.
The game was wide-open going into the dying seconds, but Barça did a solid job of keeping possession and frustrating Atleti’s players, who committed some hard fouls and received a half-dozen yellow cards in less than 10 minutes. There was more drama late as the ball hit Sergio Busquets’ arm and Atleti asked for a penalty, but neither the referee or VAR saw enough to give a spot kick to the away side.
The final whistle came to end Atlético’s blitz and give Barça three giant points and a huge confidence boost with 8 games to go. The victory is crucial, yes, but the most encouraging part was the quality of the performance. The attack was creative and produced real chances, and if the finishing improves this team will be just fine and will clinch the title.

Following a second goalless draw in a row away to Getafe to complicate their situation in La Liga and a full week of training in beautiful Catalonia, Barcelona return to action for one of the most consequential matches of the season when they welcome Atlético Madrid to the Greatest Stadium on Earth on Sunday afternoon.
The last two results and the terrible performances have cut Barça’s lead at the top of the table to 11 points, and Real Madrid’s win on Saturday momentarily shrunk that gap to only eight points. La Liga is not over yet, and another Barça failure to win on Sunday will make things very interesting with eight games to go and a very difficult schedule in the next three weeks for the leaders.
Simply put, this is the most important game of the season for the Catalans. A victory will restore their double-digit lead and slow down Madrid’s momentum, and give Barça much-needed confidence to go into three brutal clashes against Rayo Vallecano away, Real Betis and Osasuna at home and the hometown derby against Espanyol, at Cornellà.
The good news for Barça is that two crucial starters are back: Pedri and Frenkie De Jong, who have been horribly missed, return from injuries and are both expected to start on Sunday. Their creativity and intensity adds another dimension to has been a lifeless attack without them, and increases Barça’s chances of finding ways to beat a very tough, well-organized Colchonero defense.
The bad news for Barça is they are facing what has unquestionably been the hottest team in the league in the last two-plus months: Atlético have flown under the radar thanks to a terrible first half of the season, but have been simply on fire since the World Cup. Their last loss in La Liga was to Barça at the Wanda Metropolitano more than three months ago, and they come into this one on a seven-game winning streak that’s given them a real chance of finishing in second place — or maybe even better if they pull off the upset.
Diego Simeone has once again figured out how to get the best out of his team, and Antoine Griezmann has once become the side’s best player since his move from Barça to Atleti was made permanent. They have more of an attacking flair this year without losing their toughness and defensive structure, and are an absolutely brutal matchup for a Barça team low on confidence and struggling to score.
Even though the Offices of Pedri & Frenkie are once again open for business, Barça aren’t automatic favorites to win and dominate. They will be better, yes, but beating this Atleti team in their current form is a very difficult prospect even if Barça were at their very best. This will be tough, and highly competitive, and a must-win for the leaders against an opponent that knows how to make it very difficult on them.
Forget dancing. Let’s just effing win.

PREDICTION
Barça get their best midfielders back in the most important game of the season so far, but Atlético are underrated and in fantastic form. This will be a thriller, but I’m trusting the good guys to find a way in a game they know they have to win: 2-1 Barça.

The Catalans are back in La Liga action on Saturday and face an in-form visiting team.
Can Barca actually score a goal?
Barcelona’s form has dwindled in recent weeks to such an extent that the team haven’t managed to score a single goal in their last three games in all competitions.
The team has managed a total of 44 shots but none have gone into the back of the net. Barca have only failed to score in four straight games three times ever (most recently in April 2008) and Xavi certainly won’t want to see his team firing blanks again.

Barca still boast a healthy lead at the top of La Liga but a defeat against an in-form Atletico would set the alarm bells ringing a tad and increase the anxiety around the Camp Nou.
Win and everything will be alright again, but it won’t be as easy as all that. Barca’s attackers are all struggling for from and will face an Atletico defense that never makes life easy.
On the plus side, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong are fit and available for the match. The return of either (but preferably both) will be a big boost for Xavi’s side.
Barca haven’t drawn three straight games in the league since December 2016 and haven’t had three consecutive goalless draws in La Liga since 1989.
Will Griezmann return to haunt Barcelona?
Antoine Griezmann is enjoying a fine season for Atletico and heads to his former home fresh from scoring a brace last time out against Almeria.
The Frenchman now has 11 goals and 8 assists in La Liga so far this season, a strong return, and may just feel he has a point to prove against Barcelona.
Griezmann never felt a good fit for Barca and so it proved. There was that documentary, the glitter celebration, trying to fit in with Messi and he just never really found his place. He’s even spoken about it ahead of the game.
“My time at Barcelona?” he told DAZN. “It was a complicated first year, as a substitute, not playing, another system, another position. I had to get used to all that. I liked my second year, I enjoyed it.”
A return to Atletico seems to have suited both parties, but Griezmann scoring on Sunday, particularly at a time when Barca are struggling for goals, would undoubtedly hurt the Catalans.
Barca’s defense has been imperious this season and will need to be against Griezmann. The Frenchman has five in his last eight league games and would surely love nothing better than to add to his tally at the Camp Nou.
What about Carrasco?

Yannick Carrasco will be at Barcelona on Sunday, and you never know he could be there permanently at the end of the season.
Barca have an option to sign the Belgium international permanently, secured in the Memphis Depay deal, and could well end up going him for at the end of the season.
Recent rumors have suggested that Barca would indeed like Carrasco but at a cheaper price than the one negotiated so far. Will Atletico negotiate? You’d be surprised.
Barca also have Ez Abde coming back from a productive loan spell at Osasuna so it’s by no means certain Carrasco will come.
Yet he will arrive at Camp Nou with two assists in his last games and will know a strong performance could help convince the Catalans one way or another.
Xavi hoping for Atletico hat-trick

Xavi may have seen his side stutter lately but the boss won’t fear Atletico as he has a perfect record against the Rojiblancos as Barcelona boss.
Granted he’s only faced them twice, but he’s overseen a 4-2 win back in February last year and a 1-0 victory earlier this year. Another win would ensures he’s only the second coach in the club’s history to win his first three games against them in La Liga (after Luis Enrique).
Barca haven’t lost at home to Atletico in their last 16 matches at the Camp Nou and Xavi is yet to see his side taste defeat at home so far this season in La Liga. Simeone, meanwhile, has exactly no wins in 15 visits to the Camp Nou.
Will we see Lamine Yamal?
Xavi has sprung something of a surprise by naming Lamine Yamal in his squad for the match. The teenager had been tipped to make his debut before the end of the season but perhaps not in such an important game as Sunday’s.
The Barcelona coach talked up Yamal ahead of the game and said he deserved the call because he’d been impressing in training with the first-team this week.
Yamal will now be hoping to for some minutes and will know that Xavi has certainly given youngsters a chance since taking over. Angel Alarcon, Chadi Riad, Marc Casado, Ilias Akhomach and Estanis Pedrola are just some of the players who have debuted under Xavi.
There’s no doubt that Yamal is the most exciting of them all and there is now a chance that fans could get their first glimpse of Barca’s latest wonderkid in the first team on Sunday at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona coach Xavi has faced the press ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou.
The manager faced a wide range of questions ahead of the game and spoke about several of his players as well as Atletico stars Antoine Griezmann and Yannick Carrasco.
Here are the best bits:
Xavi on Atletico Madrid
Tomorrow will be a complicated match, an important match. Atletico is one of the most in-form teams in the league. They are playing really good football. They are creating a lot of chances, playing at a really high level. We are going to face a really high level opposition in really amazing form. It’s going to be a great match.
Xavi on the importance of the match
We need to get our identity back. It’s a match that extra motivates everyone. It’s the perfect moment to come back. Our level has dropped a little bit. We’ve had time to train and it’s a key match.
Xavi on Lamine Yamal
Everyone who has been called up has the option of participating. He can help us, he has good talent, he is young, has a lot of personality. One on one, he’s strong, he’s a player that can mark an era and be really important for the club. He’s not afraid, we’ve put him on the list, we’ve spoken to him, he’s ready. I think he can help us.
Xavi on what he wants from the run-in
The message is clear. To be recognisable by our game style, don’t lose the ball so much, bring back our identity, generate chances in attack, push the defensive line really high. There have been circumstances that have meant our level has dropped but now it’s time to push on.
Xavin on Yamal’s future
We will focus on the present, what we have ahead of us. He’s done really well. I’ve liked what I’ve seen and that’s why he’s been called up. The fact that his contract is ending is nothing to do with the call-up. He’s training well, has great footballing talent and can play well for the first team despite his age.
Xavi on the current Messi buzz
Right now I’m not thinking about this. My focus is on football, training well, and the week ahead. I don’t think about next year, or the signings, or the other things that happen. I’m going to give everything I can for Barca to play the best. I’m not focused on Leo or signings.
Xavi on comparing youngsters to Barca players
Pedri we’ve always compared to Andres. Lamine is different. He has things from different players. He has an innate talent. The youngsters are not afraid, that’s the difference from my generation, they have this way of just pushing on. Lamine has trained wonderfully so I think the best thing is to call him up. No fear, I don’t think there’s any comparison with anyone.
Xavi on Pedri, De Jong, and Dembele
He [Dembele] is just one step away. He’s not quite ready but he almost is. If it’s not Wednesday it will be Saturday. Everyone who is in the squad is 100%. We’ll see tomorrow who will play. Chrisensen is the same, he’s almost there. The good news is that we have recovered almost the entire squad, apart from Sergi Roberto.
Xavi on playing in the afternoon
They criticise me for everything. I’m not bothered. If I say the sun bothered me, then yeah. It doesn’t help us or the spectacle. If you want to ask, maybe you should ask why they don’t water their pitch. Ask the coach of Getafe. It was drier than normal. There is no rule for this. In all the other sports there is a rule about the pitch. Why not in football? The playing surface is fundamental to the game.
Xavi on De Jong
Frenkie is fundamental, I’ve said that a lot, in attack and defense. The dynamism he gives, and Pedri, they are fundamental to get our identity back. Frenkie espeically in the basics of the match. With Busi, with Pedri, we are definitely better.
Xavi on Lewandowski
He’s motivated, he’s trained really well, he’s always looks for answers to improve, for the team to improve. We are really happy with him. He’s not had the numbers of the first half of the season but will be scoring again, he’ll keep being important.
Xavi on Rafa Marquez and Julian Araujo
Rafa is doing spectacular work, we are in touch all the time, almost daily. He’s having a fantastic season. Julian is training a lot with us, he’s in the first-team dynamic, and at the end of the season we’ll decide what we’ll do with him - as we will for all the players.
Xavi on Pedri
Pedri is fundamental for the last pass. He gets on really well with Robert. It’s really good news for us that we get these players back. Pedri is a feeder of balls, he generates passes. His return is perfect for us.
Xavi on Griezmann
He’s a very important player for Atletico. He stands out from the rest of the team. His individuality is key. Griezmann is in an exceptional moment of form. He’s comfortable, happy, yes he’s someone we’ll need to take care of tomorrow.
Xavi on Carrasco
He’s a great player. The work he has to do on the left wing, he’s a player who can make differences. He’s very strong, he’s a player that can cause problems for us tomorrow if we don’t stop him.

Preparations for the game against Atlético Madrid continue. The squad trained this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva in what was the penultimate session before the home match on Sunday at 4.15pm CEST. The players are well aware of the importance of the game in order to enter the business part of the season in the best possible shape.

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has been talking about the possibility of Lionel Messi returning and would be more than happy to see the GOAT back home.
Alba and Messi enjoying a superb relationship during their time together at the Camp Nou, and the defender acknowledges Messi’s return would likely help him out.
“It is Leo’s decision. Honestly, we haven’t talked about this topic, but it’s clear that in the end, seeing Messi with another shirt other than Barca’s is always weird,” he said.
“In the end, if he wants to and the club wants to, it’s perfect for me. He has been the player with whom I have understood the best on the pitch.”
The veteran has had to be patient this season, due to the emergence of Alejandro Balde, and is no longer guaranteed a place in the starting XI under Xavi.

Barcelona have been linked with yet another right-back as they consider bringing in another defender in the summer transfer window.
Benfica’s Alexander Bah is the latest name that can be added to a very long list of targets, according to Danish outlet BT.
The Portuguese side are enjoying a strong campaign. They are four points clear at the top of the league and made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Bah has been a regular in the team this season. He’s made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and picking up six assists.

Barcelona are reportedly planning on sending new arrival Julian Araujo out on loan in the summer transfer window.
The Mexico international has only just arrived at the club from LA Galaxy but Diario Sport reckon he’s having a tough time adapting to life with the Catalan giants.
Xavi is apparently not impressed with Araujo so far, and it’s thought he’s found it difficult to fit in with Barca’s unique style of play.
Barcelona think the best option is to send him out on loan to help him adapt to the demands of European football.
The club think it would be a waste of time to have Araujo on the bench for the majority of next season and want him to play instead.
Right-back remains a problem position for Barcelona, with conflicting rumors flying about regarding whether they will sign a new full-back or not.
Jules Kounde has done a decent job at right-back this season but certainly wasn’t brought to Barcelona to play there and presumably would much rather return to his favored center-back role.

Barcelona are planning a giant offer to Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino once his deal at Anfield has expired this summer, according to a new report.
The Brazilian has made it clear that he intends to move on after a long spell with the Reds, and Barca are apparently keen to make an offer.
This report comes in spite of the many other deals Barca are thought to be trying to get done this summer, mainly a Leo Messi return, and the financial fair play issues the club is drowning in.
The likelihood that Barcelona would be able to pay massive salaries to both Messi and Firmino is as unlikely as Barcelona going goalless in three straight matches. Oh.
Either way, Barcelona isn't likely to be able to make this deal. Messi is a bigger priority and Firmino is going to want a payday. Both sides’ priorities don’t really line up.

Barcelona are reportedly planning a busy summer and want to raise €100 million in sales before the start of the 2023-24 season.
The Catalans are willing to offload a host of players which would allow them to register new contracts for key players and bring back Lionel Messi from PSG.
Mundo Deportivo are reporting that there are a long list of first-team players that Xavi is willing to let go if offers arrive this summer.
Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati have been regularly linked with an exit, but Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Eric Garcia could also be sold too.
Barca need to register contracts for Ronald Araujo and Gavi and would like to hand extensions to Alejandro Balde and Inaki Pena too.
A separate report in MD also claims that Barca are hoping to sell off some of the players who have been away on loan this season.
Barca are willing to dispense with Clement Lenglet, Sergino Dest, Nico Gonzalez, Alex Collado, and Samuel Umtiti, while a permanent deal for Trincao already seems to be done.
The only other player to mention is Ez Abde, who has been on loan at Osasuna and caught the eye with some impressive performances.
The winger is in-demand and could go if a big offer arrives. Yet there’s a chance too that he could stay, particularly if any of Raphinha, Ferran or Ansu leave.
