Fernandez hoping to sign two new players for Barcelona before the close of the transfer window

We could be set for a busy few days on the transfer front

Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez says he is hoping to bring in one or two new players before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.

Fernandez was speaking at a press conference as Barcelona unveiled new signing Ousmane Dembele who has arrived from Borussia Dortmund.

Speculation claims Barca are still in for Philippe Coutinho, with reports today claiming Liverpool have agreed to sign Naby Keita with the midfielder set to arrive next summer. However, whether that will have an impact on the club’s stance towards Coutinho, or not, remains to be seen.

Speaking about the transfer market, Fernandez was coy about the club’s targets but did say that he does want to further strengthen the squad

"We are negotiating with certain players about joining," Robert in response to a question about Coutinho.

"We need things sorted quickly as there are not many days left of the transfer window.

“We hope things progress well and that we are able to present another player this month.

"We're working on a number of possibilities. We have to wait. We know the type of player we want and the profile we need to improve the team and we will push until the last possible moment.

"My intention is that one more player comes in and, if it's possible, even two."

Fernandez also ruled out a move for Jean Michael Seri but, interestingly, refused to rule out Angel Di Maria joining from Paris Saint-Germain.

It promises to be an interesting few days before the window slams shut, there still seem to be a number of big deals that could happen across Europe, and hopefully Barca will see some more new arrivals. Let’s just hope they’re the right ones.
