Things have changed for the Liverpool ace apparently
The transfer window is closing soon and while the rumor mill has gone into overdrive, the talk surrounding Philippe Coutinho has gone noticeably quiet.
In fact the talk today has been about Barca reverting to a ‘Plan B’ of either Paulo Dybala, Antoine Griezmann or Thomas Lemar instead of the Liverpool ace.
Coutinho is currently on international duty and Brazil national team coordinator Edu Gaspar has, unsurprisingly, been asked about the Liverpool star.
While it’s difficult to read too much into what he says, he does seem to suggest there are indeed ongoing negotiations between the Reds and Barcelona - something that has been denied in the UK press in recent days.
"It's been 15 days since we called Philippe Coutinho to join our national team. At the time, he was in a very different situation. He was training for Liverpool," he said.
"Even if he was negotiating with Barcelona, he was still training.
"After he came to the national team, something more complex came around in the negotiation and we had to be very careful so we wouldn't get involved in it."

Gaspar also confirms that Coutinho is “physically and mentally healthy” despite not featuring for Liverpool so far this season due to injury, although it remains to be seen whether he will feature in the World Cup qualifiers.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are being heavily linked with a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is expected to undergo a medical tonight ahead of a potential £35 million move, according to multiple reports in the UK.
The Reds have also confirmed that Naby Keita will arrive from RB Leipzig next summer and they also reportedly retain an interest in Thomas Lemar with a meeting apparently scheduled with Monaco today.
While a deal for Coutinho is still looking unlikely at this stage, it seems pretty certain there may still be more twists and turns before the transfer window closes.
