Barcelona’s Lieke Martens named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year

Congratulations Lieke Martens!

FC Barcelona forward Lieke Martens has been named the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year. The award was handed out today at the Champions League draw in Monaco.

Martens helped the Netherlands win Euro 2017 earlier this year and has scored 33 times in 80 appearances for her national side since first appearing in 2011.

The award is based on performances in all competitions throughout the 2016/17 season.

In her club career she moved to Barcelona in July 2017 after spending a year at FC Rosengård.

"This is so amazing, it's a big honour. I'm really proud, but I couldn't achieve this without my team-mates. I'm speechless!"
