The club chiefs have discussed a number of hot topics
Barcelona sporting director Roberto Fernandez and third vice president Jordi Mestre have spoken out about the club’s pursuit of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele as well as Lionel Messi’s new contract.
There has been contradictory information flying about today concerning Coutinho and Dembele with Pep Segura insisting after last night’s game that deals are “close”.
Those remarks have subsequently been played down by both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, and Fernandez gave his view on the subject during the presentation to unveil Paulinho.
“They are two players we want to sign as they would adapt well to our style of football, but their clubs will decide if we can complete the signings or not,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mestre spoke out about Messi, with it having been pointed out that while his new deal was agreed back in June, the Argentine is still yet to put pen to paper on his contract renewal.
“It has all been discussed and only the signature is missing.
“I would be very surprised if it didn’t go through.”

Fernandez also took time out to discuss Sergi Roberto, dismissing speculation he could be sold by claiming he is “crucial for Barca”.
Barca are certainly saying the right things but fans would certainly feel a whole lot better if Messi’s contract was signed, sealed and delivered, particularly in the current climate.
