Marc-André ter Stegen
Looked a lost man when Asensio’s effort flew over his head and into the net. Perhaps the swerve or the pace got him but it looked like a save a top keeper should be making. Did redeem himself with some good saves in the game to keep the score down.

Jordi Alba
Pretty non-existent attacking wise as he looked confused on where he should be. With no natural winger to overlap, Alba frequently went inside looking for the ball and any attack was snuffed out. The pace of Madrid’s counter did catch him out on occasion.

Gerard Piqué
Looked to struggle with the formation change as he was being playing the centre of the back three. In theory, his passing ability should have helped him out but he failed to do so due to Madrid’s press. Was even seen knocking a long ball forward to Messi. Withdrew injured in the second half.

Samuel Umtiti
Barcelona’s best defender in the first leg looked to be the only one of the back three comfortable with his position. Aided by his pace, he could stop Madrid’s quick wingers from cutting inside often. Should probably have done more for both Madrid goals, in particular the second where he was caught on his heels.

Sergi Roberto
Hardly involved with the game as he looked unable to offer an attacking source from the right. It will be a sore one for Roberto who may have been hoping to have ditched the right back position.

Javier Mascherano
Made the most tackles of any Barça defender but did frequently looked exposed. Lacks the pace needed to play a back three against Madrid but his positioning was smart.

Sergio Busquets
An uncharictisally nervy performance from Busquets as he was swamred by an impressive Madrid midfield. Struggled to link play between the defence and the attack.

A few bursts into the box where the highlights of Rakitić’s game in a quiet game.

Andre Gomes
Another poor performance from Gomes as he made little to no impact on the game.

Luis Suárez
Pretty much out of the game for the entire affair. He was marked out of it and the Barça midfield found it almost impossible to find him. Any chance he did find, he did not take.

Lionel Messi
Didn’t touch the ball inside the opening ten minutes which demonstrates just how penned back Barça were. As the game grew, he looked the only player likely to score or create a goal. A drilled pass wasn’t meant by Suárez and it looked suspiciously like Messi missed Neymar.

Nélson Semedo
Looked lively in his brief cameo but some of his passes were wayward.

Gerard Deulofeu
Only played 19 minutes and didn’t really see the ball.
