To this point, it doesn’t seem like it.
The season has already started. The league starts soon. And Barcelona are still talking about selling or buying 8 or so players. That’s absurd, independently of whether each player is a good deal or not.
Ernesto Valverde didn’t cover himself in glory during the Spanish Supercup loss to Real Madrid, but he can’t be totally blamed when his squad is nowhere near complete.
The transfers of Ousmane Dembele (Borussia Dortmund) and Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool) are supposedly being negotiated, but there is no guarantee they’ll arrive. There have been rumors of other signings: Iñigo Martinez, Jean Seri, Lorenzo Insigne... but nothing is coming to fruition.
Gerard Romero said Barça are considering buying Seri but nothing is advanced. How can they still be at that stage? Shouldn’t they have already planned this out way before?
OK, the Dembele and Coutinho are ridiculously expensive transfers, you can sort of understand why they’re taking their time a bit. But what about the exits?
How are Arda Turan, Thomas Vermaelen, Douglas Pereira, Munir El-Haddadi, and Sergi Samper all still at the club when it’s clear the coach and the board don’t want them?
You can argue they haven’t gotten a satisfactory bid, but why would that be the case? Maybe Barça’s valuations are too high. Or maybe they suck at negotiating. I don’t think there are other clubs still trying to offload 5 players that the club clearly does not want.
That’s not even counting the likes of Andre Gomes, Sergi Roberto, and Rafinha, who might also leave!
Time is running out. Does anyone have any confidence they can pull all this off?
