Spain is my second home. I have been going there nearly every summer since the age of two. Although the majority of my time spent there has been in and around Madrid, the capital of Catalunya has always latched on to a special place in my heart. My love for this country has often times rendered me silent, with little left but the smile on my face. For anyone who has been to Barcelona, when people ask to describe it, your smile immediately stretches just a little bit wider. The architecture is dazzling, the food exquisite and the sky brimming in its own distinctive shade of blue.
Today, savages have tried to taint those memories. They have taken life and have attempted to take our happiness. They have tried to break us and have us turn our backs on this most incredible place. We have lost, but that will not happen - not now, not ever. I choose to always remember the smell of the freshly prepared Paella on Marta's terrace. I choose to remember my first time stepping into the Camp Nou and the feeling of my heart beginning to beat just a split second faster. I choose to remember my long walks through Las Ramblas under the night sky, praying to find any semblance of a decent tapa's bar. I choose to remember the wind blowing through my hair as I ran to make the metro, only to stand still in my tracks as the most beautiful rendition of "wonderwall" touched my ears.
Barcelona is love — Love for this city. Love for this club. Love for its people.
While millions of us have never met personally, we are all bound together through our passion for this club. This club has always stood for something more, something that can't be bought or sold, re-defined or buried. While that message may now seem more convoluted than ever, we are responsible to keep it intact.
My heart now breaks for reasons far beyond football, but on Sunday this club will slowly assist me in picking up the pieces. It has always been there for me and it always will be. In return, we must be there for them now.
Today, we are Mes Que Un Cuidad. We are Barcelona.
