Yours and Sam’s scores from Barça’s win.
Marc-André ter Stegen
Answered anything that was asked of him. With just the two shots on target from the home side, her Stegen’s task was to be Barcelona’s first attacker and looked to start plays whenever he had the ball.

Jordi Alba
Did well to create the first goal by zipping down the flank and drilling the ball back in to find Messi.

Gerard Piqué
Dealt with anything Alavés were offering although he did pick up a yellow.

Samuel Umtiti
Another strong performance from Umtiti as he emerges as the most consistent defender at Barça this season.

Sergi Roberto
With Alba consistently pushing up, Roberto on occasion was forced to remain deep and cover but he did this well. Consistent performances at RB only make it less clear whether he is now seen as a defender or a midfielder.

Sergio Busquets
As Barcelona continued to push forward, it was down to Busquets to ensure an Alavés counterattack didn’t hurt the side. Busquets kept the danger to a minimum as he made the most tackles of any Barça player while maintaining a pass success rate of 90%.

Ivan Rakitić
A good performance from the Croatian that was heavily focused on the attacking side of his game. Against teams that look to defend, Barcelona need goals from midfield and Rakitić looked willing to provide that. Despite both of his shots going wayward, his incisive passing was helping Barcelona come closer to the opening goal.

Andrés Iniesta
A controlling performance as the club captain just kept things ticking over in the midfield. Seemed hesitant to make any bursts forward and would often prefer giving the ball to Messi who had dropped deep. Substituted in the 87th minute.

Aleix Vidal
A quiet game from Vidal in which he contributed little. Frequently seemed let down by his first touch.

Lionel Messi
Sharp enough to come near post for Alba’s cross and although it did take a deflection without the intelligence of Messi’s movement the first goal would not have come. Continued to be the fulcrum of Barcelona’s offensive movement and almost everything went threw him. Was on hand to slot home Barça’s second after a good recovery from Paco Alcácer.

Gerard Deulofeu
An encouraging performance from Deulofeu as he looks to build on his good performance last week. He was making himself busy and if he does not possess the quality of Neymar, he does have a strong work ethic that can go someway in making up for it.

Paco Alcácer
Set up the second goal through good pressing. Initially having wasted a counterattacking opportunity by not managing to find Messi, Alcácer hurried the defender in to a mistake. This allowed the Spaniard to head the ball across to Messi who finished first time. A good, if not overly spectacular, performance from the substitute.

Denis Suárez
Played the last 20 minutes and helped to ensure Barça kept possession and control. Still looks not entirely sure if his best position is part of the midfield or the front three.

Paulinho
The new signing made a brief cameo.

Ernesto Valverde
There was not an abundant need for a tactical masterclass from the coach but Barça played the game well. Looking to break through the Alavés defence and then looking to increase their lead and avoid any chance of an equaliser.

A solid win to build on last week’s opener.
