The Barcelona boss has reacted to the win over Getafe
Ronald Koeman has offered his thoughts on Sunday’s 2-1 win over Getafe in La Liga and reckons it’s the sort of match his team would have dropped points in last season.
Barca made the perfect start to the game with an early goal from Sergi Roberto but were pegged back when Sandro Ramirez made it 1-1 after 19 minutes.
Memphis Depay proved to be Barca’s match-winner with another fine goal in the second half and Koeman seemed pretty happy with his team’s performance.
“A difficult game. Getafe is a strong team. We started very well, they tied us ... we had control of the game but we didn’t create many opportunities.
“I think that in the second half we lowered our game with the ball. We had more losses. It should be noted the work and the attitude we had to win the match. Different from last year. Last year we tied games like today. I’m very happy with the team.
“We lost balls in the second half, we were more worried and Getafe realized it. Defensively we have delivered. They have not had great opportunities. We have to win at home. Last year we lost points here and this year we have two victories at home.”
Koeman also defended forward Antoine Griezmann who was whistled by some sections of the support and endured another quiet game for the Catalan giants.
“As a coach, I can never understand why fans whistle one of our own players. You can criticise if their attitude is wrong of they don’t work hard. I know Griezmann didn’t get the rub of the green we hoped, but it’s just one game.”
Sunday’s result means Barca have started the campaign with two wins and a draw after the first three games of the new campaign. However, Sunday’s win over Getafe was far from convincing and Koeman will know his team must improve if they are to challenge for trophies.
