The top 3 finalists were all FC Barcelona players, as was the coach of the year

FC Barcelona Femení dominated the UEFA awards this year in the women’s section, with the top 3 players and the best coach all belonging to the Catalan giants.

Team captain Alexia Putellas took home the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award, while her teammates Jennifer Hermoso and Lieke Martens (who won the award in 2017) rounded up the top three.

Three other Barcelona players were in the top 10: Aitana Bonmatí (fifth), Caroline Graham Hansen (sixth,) and Irene Paredes (tenth.) The latter spent last season at Paris Saint-Germain but has joined Barcelona recently.

Lluís Cortés won the prize for best manager, though he has since left the team after the treble winning success of his last season in charge.

Putellas also, logically, won the award for best midfielder, but Bonmatí was nominated as well.

Hermoso was the winner of the best forward award, with Martens and Graham Hansen nominated for that as well. Paredes won best defender, and Mapi León was nominated.

Sandra Paños, another Barcelona player, won best goalkeeper.
