Things are getting very heated

UEFA president Alex Ceferin has hit back at plans to form a new European Super League and has said any players participating in the new league will be banned from playing at World Cups and European Championship tournaments.

Barcelona have already confirmed their plans to take part in the new breakaway league along with clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus, and La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Ceferin has made it clear how unhappy UEFA is with the latest developments (it’s quite long but you can read the full statement here).

“As previously announced by Fifa and the six federations, the players who will play in teams that might play in the closed league will be banned from playing in the World Cup and Euros, so they will not be able to represent their national teams at any matches, so we urge everyone from the millions of football lovers around the world, the world’s media gathered on this call today, politicians and football’s governing bodies to stand tall with us, as we do everything in our power to ensure this never ends up in fruition.”

The UEFA president was also particularly scathing about Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli. He blasted both men and explained “we didn’t know we had snakes so close to us. Now we know.”
