The club could be banned from the Champions League
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has warned Barcelona and Real Madrid that clubs still in the Super League will not be able to play in the Champions League.
The Super League was launched this week but subsequently looked on the brink of collapse as clubs rushed to pull out amid a fierce backlash.
As it stands only Barca, Real Madrid, and possibly Juventus are left in the seemingly-doomed project that has attracted fierce criticism.
Ceferin has now given an interview where he’s warned clubs they need to make their minds up about what they plan to do next.
“It’s crystal clear that the clubs will have to decide if they are Super League or they are a European club,” he said.
“If they say we are a Super League, then they don’t play Champions League, of course ... and if they are ready to do that, they can play in their own competition.”
Barca president Joan Laporta spoke this week about how the Super League is an “absolute necessity” but also added the “last word” would come from the members.
Meanwhile, Ceferin also went on to talk about potential sanctions for those club officials involved in the proposed project.
“We still are waiting for legal expertise and then we will say, but everybody faces consequences for their decisions and they know that,” he added.
“For me, it’s a very different situation between the clubs that admitted their mistake and said, ‘We will leave the project.’ The others mainly know I would say that this project is dead, but they don’t want to believe it, probably.”

Barca’s last update on the Super League can last night via an official statement where they confirmed they were still committed to the project.
The club called the new league a “historic opportunity” but added “more in-depth analysis” is needed to avoid “taking any rash action.”
