The legend also spoke about Lionel Messi

Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has been talking about the team’s recent improved form and how the players look to have a new lease of life.

The Catalans are currently on an 18-match unbeaten run which has reignited the club’s title hopes and sent them into the Copa del Rey final.

Puyol feels there’s been a change of energy and says the players and coach deserve credit.

“There has been a change of energy in the team, I see the team doing well, with enthusiasm, it was seen in the comeback in the Copa del Rey. In the Champions League, one more goal in Paris could have changed everything. It’s a new project, with a new coach, with young players and the league is alive and we have to play the Copa del Rey final

“Barça have good players, a good team and in recent years we have won many titles. These players deserve credit and that we trust them. From the outside it looks the players are happy with Koeman, who is a legend of the club, he is doing a good job, he deserves respect and trust, then at the end of the season the assessments will be made.”

The former skipper also said he has spoken to Lionel Messi recently and is hoping the Argentina international will stay at the club.

“I recently spoke with Messi when he equaled Xavi. I see him well, with desire. It would be very good news for the Catalans if he stays, I think he is in the best place, but everyone decides what they want and it will be necessary to understand and respect the decision he makes.”

Messi’s been in sensational form since the turn of the year and will hopefully be fairly fresh for the run-in. Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers scheduled for the current international break have been postponed which means Messi can enjoy some well-deserved days off.
