A tough trip to Portugal awaits Barça, and you cannot miss it
It’s been nearly a month and a half since Barcelona lost or drew a game, home or away. The Blaugrana have won their last seven matches in all competitions and turned the summer crisis into a state of hope and excitement for what’s to come.
Barça look like Barça again, but as we get closer and closer to a brutal month of October, the Catalan giants are having to prove themselves against tougher competition. One example is today at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, Portugal, where Barça play their first Champions League match away from home against Sporting Lisbon.
Since many people don’t follow Portuguese football, they won’t be thinking of this as a tough game, but they couldn’t be further from the truth. Sporting are a very capable side and have very good attacking threats on the ground and in the air, and they also feature a former Barça player, French defender Jérémy Mathieu, who’s been speaking strongly against the club and says he will celebrate if he scores a goal for his new team.
The atmosphere at the Alvalade is one of the most hostile in Europe, and the fans will push Sporting to make this a very difficult test for Barça. Thankfully Barça have Lionel Messi in sensational form, and with a good start to the season from the whole team, Messi will have help to overcome this tough challenge and get another win for the group leaders.
This is a key match in Barça’s group, it’s the Champions League and Messi will be playing. There’s just no way you’ll be missing it, right?
