FC Barcelona put on a scintillating show for the home faithful at the Camp Nou on Saturday, as they cruised to a 5-0 win over Las Palmas. Fresh off the back of the 3-1 Copa del Rey last-16 second leg win over Athletic Club, Luis Enrique’s men continued in the same vein and picked up their first league win of 2017 in emphatic style.

Josep Maria Bartomeu made it clear from the directors’ box at the stadium that "Messi’s contract extension is essential for our Club." Bartomeu attempted to send a message of confidence to fans, admitting "I have had conversations with Messi’s family and people so that he can continue here." The blaugrana president went to assure everyone, saying "when there is news, I will let you know."

FC Barcelona B kicked off 2017 at the Miniestadi in style with a 2-0 win over Hércules, the league’s third-placed side to remain top of the pile. Xemi glanced on Perea’s corner and, via deflection, found its way in the net to send Gerard López’s men on their way. The second half started in perfect fashion for the hosts as they grabbed a second minutes after the restart through Dani Romera. Aleñá’s corner was fumbled by the keeper and the ball fell kindly for Romera to tuck away a crucial second for his side.
