Aleix Vidal has been a disappointment.
Whether the club likes to admit it or not, their inability to find a suitable replacement for Dani Alves has caused the squad a major setback all season.
The club made a bold move while signing Aleix Vidal from Sevilla last season for the role of right-back, despite his inexperience at playing the position. The Spaniard had the explosiveness in the final third, but his defence was suspect and few would have expected him to make the jump to playing at a world-class level in a demanding role; the board disagreed.
After the Brazilian departed for Turin, Aleix Vidal was expected to take up the vacant spot with Sergi Roberto providing him cover. However, as things would have it, Aleix Vidal has failed to improve his defensive game and has since found minutes hard to come by.
After being excluded from match-day squads altogether, the player began looking for a new club back in November. He has managed to gather the interest of several teams including Marsielle, Milan, Inter, and Southampton. However, with transfer target Cancelo insisting for a move in the summer, the Spaniard has begun receiving game time in the Copa and UCL, which should ensure his stay for the time being.
The player would like to move to a big club that can actually execute the option to buy, should he leave on a loan, which has led to him prefering a move at the end of the season than now.
For the time being, one can only hope that he makes it through the season, in the best possible manner, before being shipped away for good.
