Even with a six point deficit, this season is far from over
Looking at the La Liga table, you can be forgiven for thinking Real Madrid may run away with the league. They’re six points clear and yet to lose a game; but with football tipsters Big Free Bet still confident that Barca can successfully defend the league title, Real Madrid are by no means winners yet.
Luis Enrique’s men are unbeaten in eight games in the league with their last defeat coming in a seven goal thriller away to Celta Vigo at the beginning of October where we lost 4-3. Though despite Barca’s unbeaten run, the Blaugrana have picked up far too many of draws of late and if they are to catch up to their rivals, they must turn those stalemates into wins.
It’s no secret that anyone can beat anyone in La Liga and there’ll be numerous games that will spring a surprise. Neighbours Espanyol are in fine form of late and are second in the form table, currently on a run of nine games unbeaten with the last team to beat them Celta Vigo.
Barcelona face their neighbouring rivals in their next fixture and it will be a close encounter at the Camp Nou despite Barcelona being seemingly stronger on paper.
Whilst Real Madrid are unbeaten all season, it’s very like that the Blancos will slip up eventually. Zinedine Zidane’s men still have a number of the league’s top teams still to play. One game in particular which may prove to the title race is home tie against Atletico Madrid. Although the club are currently residing in sixth place and going through a dizzy patch, there is no denying the talent of head coach Diego Simeone who will undoubtedly overcome this current bad form and see his team climb higher up the table.
The tie is due to be played in April when the end of the season will be fast approaching and when this is gone that will reveal all about the title race. Atletico have the ability to match the talent of Real with the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Koke and Fernando Torres.
Madrid may also slip up in the reverse tie of El Clasico. Barca came agonisingly close to getting one over on their rivals after Luis Suarez put the hosts ahead no more than ten minutes after a half-time. It was a pretty evenly matched game, though whilst Barcelona had the most clear cut chances, Madrid tired the Barcelona defence an awful lot. Madrid’s perseverance finally paid off on the 90th minute mark when Sergio Ramos break Barca hearts to pull his side level. Though, what’s clear is that both sides struggled in certain departments and that’s something that we will see as the season continues.
More promisingly for Barca, their form on the road is slightly better than that of Madrid. With six wins, one draw and one loss they are two points better off away from home than Madrid who have chalked five wins and two draws. With this, it would come as little surprise if Barcelona were triumphant at the Bernabéu Stadium and closed that gap.
Rest assured, La Liga isn't over yet...
