"It's Paco or nobody", says Luis Enrique
What looked like a done deal three days ago is now a distant possibility, but Barcelona will keep trying to sign their fourth forward.
According to reports in Spain, the Blaugrana will make one final push to sign Valencia striker Paco Alcácer before the end of this transfer window. Robert Fernández and his staff hope to complete a deal in time to register Paco for the La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao, and they will do whatever is possible (and responsible) to sign the player.
Barça coach Luis Enrique has made a simple, yet firm statement to the board: "Paco or nobody". There is no other option, no other forward that could be signed. Enrique sees Alcácer as the perfect fourth forward, and if he isn't signed, then Lucho will stick with Munir El-Haddadi until at least the next window.
The Catalans stand firm on their €30 million offer, but Valencia want €40 million plus performance bonuses, sources told Barça Blaugranes. Barça have offered to loan both Munir and Sergi Samper, and still haven't gotten any response on that offer. Valencia owner Peter Lim wants to sell Paco due to Financial Fair Play reasons, but the rest of the board doesn't. Lim is worried about huge backlash from the people around him and especially the fans, who see Paco as an idol and have already seen another of their favorites, André Gomes, join Barça.
Alcácer's agent and one of the most influential people in the club, Jorge Mendes, is already working to find a replacement to Paco, as the Portuguese is also interested in the deal (COMISSION!). If he does find someone, Alcácer would be free to join Barça, then.
The next six days are huge. It's the last full week of the window, and Barça have a huge visit to San Mamés to face Athletic. If Alcácer is on the squad list on Saturday, then the Catalans would have struck a fantastic deal.
