FC Barcelona can move one step closer to a historic treble tonight, provided that they finish what they started last Wednesday and eliminate Paris Saint-Germain from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the second time in three seasons. In that sense, this was probably to be expected from PSG and indicates that despite their vast spending, their team is not progressing.
For Barcelona on the other hand, this represents proof that we are on the right path with Luis Enrique and that we are improving, particularly in comparison to last season in which the Blaugrana were eliminated on away goals by eventual finalists, Atletico Madrid.
Progression at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain would also serve as a fitting tribute to late head coach Tito Vilanova, with the anniversary of his tragic passing approaching on Saturday. Vilanova was the last Barça coach to eliminate the Parisians and indeed he was the last Barça manager whom many believed could have replicated the treble achieved under Guardiola.
