Neymar's Brazil takes Superclásico de las Américas (2-0) | FC Barcelona

It’s Brazil who were celebrating at the end of the Superclásico de las Américas after the side captained by Neymar beat Argentina 2-0 at the Olympic Stadium, Beijing. A brace of goals from Tardelli, one in each half, did the job for the ‘canarinha’, who were simply more decisive than their South American neighbours over the last few metres. Both Messi and Mascherano played the full match, while Neymar was replaced just before the final whistle.

Messi: "The anger for losing the World Cup Final will never go away" | FC Barcelona

Leo Messi was clearly disappointed after Argentina were beaten 2-0 by South American rivals Brazil in China. "The game was defined by two mistakes by us in the first goal and the penalty" he said. "If I’d scored, it would have changed the game. We were better early on but couldn’t take advantage of that. They scored with their first clear chance."

Hit or miss? Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona - Goal.com

Many people feared that the introduction of the Croatian would see him replace the influential, but aging, Xavi in the Barca midfield. While the World Cup winner has been relegated to the bench for most games so far this season, the two have ended up playing alongside each other in the middle of the park several times, with the Spaniard only replacing the former Schalke man once as a substitute. However, Rakitic has taken up many of the responsibilities from the 34-year-old this year.

The reigning European champion lost its first qualifier in eight years on Thursday as a late Miroslav Stoch goal condemned Vicente del Bosque's side to a 2-1 defeat in Zilina. It means Spain have won just once in three matches since their below-par showing at the World Cup in Brazil, with an Iker Casillas error allowing the hosts to take the lead through Juraj Kucka.

Real Madrid face Mexican or Asian opponents in Club World Cup | Eurosport

The Spanish side are three-time winners of the tournament in its former guise as the Intercontinental Cup and will be favourites going into this year's event that will be held in north Africa from December 10 to 20. Their opponents in the semi-finals could yet be one of three clubs, with Cruz Azul having already booked a quarter-final place against Western Sydney Wanderers from Australia or Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, who must still contest the final of the Asian Champions League with the second leg on November 1.
