Dear Barcelona, forget about Coutinho and just sign Ousmane Dembélé already

He wants you. You clearly have the money. Dortmund will sell if you pay. Just do it.

It has been a week since Barcelona announced that Neymar wanted to leave, and the money arrived shortly after. The Spanish Supercup is right around the corner, and we don’t know who will replace Neymar, and where he’s coming from. Is it Gerard Deulofeu? Is it Philippe Coutinho? Is it someone else?

Well, there is one clear name, the best name, the PERFECT name: Ousmane Dembélé. The Borussia Dortmund young superstar is the ideal man to sign right now, for a few clear reasons:

1. He wants to play for Barcelona. Dembélé has been clear multiple times that his ultimate dream is to be a Blaugrana. He left Rennes for Dortmund last year and said he would be in Germany to prepare himself for a move to Catalonia. None of us expected Neymar to leave this summer and Dembélé might be a few summers away from being a world-class player able to perfectly replace Neymar, but he’s already a great talent and will play in a perfect environment for his specific skill set. He’ll take some patience and time, but it’ll be worth it.
2. Barcelona have the money. We don’t need to explain why, do we?
3. Dortmund will eventually sell. Unlike Liverpool, who have stated time and time again that they will not negotiate any price for Coutinho, Dortmund have set a price and will sell when Barça eventually meet it. There are conflicting reports about what’s the exact price, but it’s somewhere between 100-130 million euros. It’s a lot of money, but that’s the market these days and every club in the universe knows that Barça have a lot of funds available. If Barça want to complete any deal this summer (or any other summer for that matter), they’ll have to accept the fact that it’ll cost a lot. But Dembélé is worth the money.
4. Dembélé is a better fit than Coutinho. While Coutinho is a truly great player, he’s not quite what Barça are looking for. He’s not a classic winger filled with skills and speed like Neymar, and he’s not a midfield maestro like Xavi or Iniesta. He’s somewhere in the middle, but what Barça need right now is either a true winger or a midfield maestro. It does’t seem like we’ll get that midfielder this summer, so if the choice is a classic winger, there is no one better than Dembélé. It’s that simple.

So please, Fútbol Club Barcelona, just sign Dembélé already. He wants you. You clearly have the money. Dortmund will sell if you pay. Just do it.
