Barcelona warned €100m will not be enough for Dembele

Borussia Dortmund want to keep their young star

Barcelona have been warned off Ousmane Dembele after reports in France claimed the Blaugrana are planning to offer Borussia Dortmund €100m for the 20-year-old.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Barca have agreed a long-term contract with Dembele and will now contact Dortmund to begin negotiations.

However, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says €100m would not be enough to tempt the Bundesliga side into selling Dembele.

“In every case, [the transfer fee] is not enough whether it is Aubameyang, or Dembele,” he told Eurosport.

Watzke also used Wolfsburg as an example, they club sold star man Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City in 2015, but have struggled ever since and narrowly avoided relegation last season.

“I remember Kevin de Bruyne, he was the Bundesliga’s record transfer,” he added. “When you see the years after it, it was not the best transfer though as the team lost lots of quality.”

Neymar’s departure for such a huge fee means clubs are well aware that Barca are in the market for a replacement, and have plenty of money to spend, meaning price tags will rise dramatically when the Blaugrana come calling.

Barcelona need to be careful they make the right decisions and do not overpay on players, simply because a superstar has left and they have money to burn.
