Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus and AC Milan on alert
Barcelona’s signing of Paulinho has all but confirmed the exit of Sergi Samper, and another La Masia midfielder could be leaving as a result as well: Sergi Roberto.
A report in SPORT says Roberto is “more and more upset” with each passing development. The player is set to take part in less minutes now that he has moved from starting right-back, the post he occupied last season, and back into a midfield rotation spot.
With Paulinho’s arrival, he could be seeing even less minutes, and reports are that he does not have confidence that Ernesto Valverde will give him as much playing time as he craves.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus and AC Milan are said to be interested in securing his services, and since his release clause is at “only” 40 million euro, his departure might be entirely up to him.
The report also says Roberto would be willing to move back to right-back if it meant returning to the starting XI. That’s a little odd considering he looked uncomfortable there last year.
The coach, as well as the board, have the chance to make a case for Roberto to stay. We’ll see if they are successful.
