Barcelona outcast close to Benfica move - Report

The Lord Douglas didn’t work at Barça, so he’ll try his luck in Portugal

It’s VERY safe to say the signing of Douglas Pereira has not been the best piece of business in Barcelona history. The Brazilian full-back was signed for €6 million back in 2014 as part of the squad overhaul at the start of the Luis Enrique Era, and after two awful seasons, Douglas was loaned out to Sporting Gijón at the start of the last campaign.

The Brazilian was able to recover some of the good football that he showed at São Paulo, but he was never part of the plans for Ernesto Valverde, who moved quickly to sign Nélson Semedo from Benfica as his top right-back.

In the middle of the Semedo negotiations, Benfica mentioned they would have no natural right-back in the squad, and Barça suggested that the Portuguese club could take Douglas on loan for a season with an option to buy. Benfica liked the suggestion, and after Douglas agreed to the move, all parties involved acted quickly to complete the deal. According to Catalan radio RAC1, the deal has been completed on Monday.

The Lord Douglas will be announced as a Benfica player over the next few days, and we wish him the best of luck.
