The club have a little under two weeks to seal the deal
Barcelona’s pursuit of Ousmane Dembele continues to rumble on amid speculation Borussia Dortmund have given the Blaugrana a deadline to sign the Frenchman.
This story appears to have emanated from a quote given by Dortmund chief executive Hans Joachim Watzke when asked for an update on the whole Dembele saga.
"The time horizon is enough for two games," he told Kicker, with Dembele currently suspended indefinitely by the club after missing training and with his future under scrutiny
Dortmund face Wolfsburg on Saturday and Hertha Berlin on 26th August, by which time it seems that Watzke is hopeful everything will be settled one way or another.
Mundo Deportivo claim that if Barca have not secured Dembele by that time, Dortmund will decide it is too late, and refuse to negotiate any further.
The club are still believed to want €150m for the Frenchman but MD claim an offer of €100m plus €30m in variables may be enough to tempt Dortmund, who are already searching for his replacement.
Incidentally Sport have already reported that Barca have agreed a deal of €100m up front with Dortmund, with €30m in add-ons, and also that both Dembele and Coutinho will be presented in the next few days - which seems a tad optimistic.
The report also claims Dortmund are also apparently keen for Dembele to publicly apologise for missing training, which he is so far refusing to do, as he also believes, he was promised he could leave Dortmund if a good offer from a big club came in.
Either way, and particularly after Sunday’s defeat to Madrid, the arrival of Dembele can’t come soon enough with Barca in need of a huge boost ahead of the new season.
After a traumatic summer so far, Dembele seems to be exactly what Barca need and this really is one target they simply cannot allow to slip through their fingers.
