The Dutchman has been banned after a red card against Cadiz

Ronald Koeman has been handed a two-match touchline ban after being sent off during Barcelona’s 0-0 La Liga draw with Cadiz on Thursday.

The Dutch coach will therefore not be on the bench for Barcelona’s next two La Liga outings against Levante at the Camp Nou on Sunday and Atletico Madrid on Saturday, October 2.

Koeman moaned about the red card decision after the match which came after a second ball had appeared on the pitch in the closing minutes of the goalless draw.

“It’s better not to speak about that because if everyone sees a second ball on the pitch except (the ref), it speaks for itself,” he said.

“In this country, they send you off for nothing. Everyone saw the two balls on the pitch except him. I told the fourth official there were two balls... but here they send you off for nothing, nada.”

The ban means there’s also the distinct possibility that Koeman might not be on the bench ever again for Barcelona if Joan Laporta’s patience snaps which is not out of the question.

Barcelona play Levante on Sunday and then head to Benfica in the Champions League before next weekend’s trip to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
