The midfielder’s busy schedule continues
Ronald Koeman has made it clear he’s not too happy with Pedri heading to the Olympics this summer with Spain after a hectic season for the Barcelona youngster.
The 18-year-old played 52 times for the Catalans in 2020-21 and then headed to the Euros where he was a regular fixture in Luis Enrique’s side who made it to the semi-finals.
Pedri is now off to the Olympics with Spain, but it’s a decision that does not sit well with the Dutchman.
“For a player it is too much to do two competitions at the highest level in the summer. Pep Guardiola already said it and I agree. He has been in a season in which he has played almost everything and has also played every minute in the Eurocup. Having four holidays and traveling to Japan to play is not good. It is too much,” he said.
“It is a personal opinion, but for me the Games are athletics and other sports, but not football. I say it on a personal level. I understand the dreams that the players have, but the calendars are very complicated and we must protect all the players.”

Barca have already reportedly complained to the RFEF about Pedri’s inclusion and asked for him to be left at home but have apparently been told there’s nothing doing and the youngster will travel to Tokyo.
Meanwhile, Pedri has tried to play down fears of fatigue and burnout. He’s said publicly that he will have enough time to rest and be ready for the new La Liga season.
