Ter Stegen explains why he told De Gea after UCL win

The goalkeeper had a classy message for the Man Utd man

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been talking about his side’s Champions League win over Manchester United and, in particular, Lionel Messi’s second goal.

The captain opened the scoring with a brilliant curling strike and then added a second four minutes later with a shot that squirmed through David De Gea’s grasp.

It was a poor error by the Spain international, and Ter Stegen admitted he spoke to his opposite number after the match about the goal.

“We are all human and it can happen to anyone,” he said. “It took a lot out of me to celebrate the goal. It was key for us but it cost me to celebrate it.

“But life goes on. I said to De Gea not to worry and that it’s something human. We are all the same and this could have happened to me.”

Ter Stegen also spoke about Barcelona’s next rivals Liverpool. The Germany international reckons neither team will be the favourite for the tie and is expecting a beautiful game.
