Barcelona Femeni reach Champions League final

They’ll play Chelsea or Lyon in the final

Barcelona Femeni secured their place in the Champions League final on Sunday after beating Bayern Munich 2-0 on aggregate in their semi-final clash.

The team were leading 1-0 from the first leg and doubled their advantage just before half-time through Mariona Caldentey’s penalty.

Barcelona were reduced to 10 in the second half when Kheira Hamraoui saw red. The sending off means she’ll now sadly miss the final.

The team also needed goalkeeper Sandra Panos to produce a superb save to preserve her clean sheet.

Despite being a player down Barcelona managed to hold on for the win and book their place in the final in Budapest on May 18.

Here’s how the team celebrated at the final whistle.

Manager Ernesto Valverde and Carles Alena were part of a record crowd of 12,764 at the Mini Estadi to watch the game.

Barcelona go on to play either Chelsea or Lyon in Hungary. The two teams play their semi-final later on Sunday at Kingsmeadow with the French side 2-1 up from the first leg.

The team’s win makes it a memorable weekend for the club after the men’s side clinched the league title on Saturday night.

They’ll now be hoping they can match the women’s side and book their place in the final of the Champions League by beating Liverpool.
