Report: Barcelona, Atlético Madrid agree deal for Luciano Vietto transfer

Barcelona's spectacular summer transfer window is getting even better, as a new signing is very close to being a reality.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants have agreed a deal with Atlético Madrid for the permanent transfer of Argentine striker Luciano Vietto. The two clubs already have an agreement; only the player and Barça need to work out a few details before a five-year contract is announced. Barça will pay a €22 million fee to complete the transfer.

Vietto is one of the most promising young strikers in La Liga. He arrived in Spain two years ago after fantastic performances with Racing Club in Argentina, and his debut season for Villarreal was a success. Vietto became an instant starter and a fan favorite, and scored 12 goals in his first campaign in Europe. His performances for the Yellow Submarine earned him a transfer to Atlético Madrid.

However, Vietto was never able to replicate at the Colchoneros what he did with Villarreal. He struggled to find a place in the starting team thanks to a monster season by Antoine Griezmann and a career revival by Fernando Torres. Diego Simeone isn't know for rotating his squad too much and likes to use his starters in most games, which meant very few minutes for Vietto.

Barça coach Luis Enrique asked for Vietto's signing since last season, but the Catalans were beaten in the race by Atleti. The interest was still alive all season, and now Lucho finally gets his backup to the 'MSN' trio. Vietto is fast striker with great scoring prowess, and looks like a perfect backup and replacement to Luis Suárez.

The deal is still not done as Vietto also has interest from Jorge Sampaoli and Sevilla, but he seems very close to joining the Catalans. Hopefully the deal goes through and this amazing transfer window gets even better. Well done, Barça board. Well done.
