Born in the small town of Salceda de Caselas in Galicia, Spain, Denis got involved into football at an early age, making his first footballing steps at the Porriño Industrial Club de Fútbol. His skills were quickly noticed and he joined the great academy of Celta Vigo. He spent only two season with Celta, reaching their Juvenil A level at the tender age of 16, and made 15 appearances for the Celta Vigo B team.

Amid interest from Barcelona, and many others, Manchester City swooped in and signed the youngster for €1 million, including numerous performance based incentives. In England Suarez joined the academy ranks of the Citizens before progressing to the Manchester City reserves. He made his competitive debut for the English club in the League Cup as a substitute in a 5-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. In 2012, Denis was voted Manchester City's Young Player of the Year, but lacking senior team appearances - he failed to log a single league appearance for City - and a clear path to the first team blocked, the youngster started looking for a new employer.

He found it on 22 August 2013 when Barcelona paid a fee of €1.5 million. Saurez immediately joined the Barcelona B team to continue his development. Throughout the season the youngster impressed, making 36 appearances, scoring seven times and assisting on eleven goals, and with the contract he signed upon joining Barcelona stating that he had to be promoted to the first team he joined the senior squad in the summer of 2014. But his stay there was short as he was quickly loaned out to Sevilla. In Andalusia, Suarez continued to improve, logging 47 appearances over four competitions, scoring six goals and adding four assists.

Suarez's loan ended in the summer of 2015 and with Barcelona halfway through a transfer ban the youngster was sold to Villarreal for a reported fee of €4 million, but the two sides agreed to include a buy-back clause into the transfer deal. Suarez continued to grow as a player at Villarreal, being one of the main figures in Villarreal's impressive 2015-16 season, scoring five goals and assigns on thirteen in 48 games. Denis signed a four year contract with Villarreal, but he would only complete a single season before the Catalan giants activated the buy-back clause, sending €3.25 million to the Yellow Submarine.

Suarez has been capped on the international stage at every level starting with the Spanish U-17 team, and was a key member of all under-age teams, but had the most success as a member of the U-19 team where he scored four goals on eight appearances and won the European Championship. On 29 May 2016, Suarez made his senior debut as a substitute against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The youngster has also played one game as a member of the Galicia national football team.

Profile

Denis brings plenty of versatility to the Barcelona lineup, along with some inevitable confusion over which Suarez did what. Originally an attacking midfielder, Denis prefers to play on the left side - which sounds very similar to a certain current Barcelona midfielder - but can also play as a central midfielder. The 22-year-old is also comfortable playing on either wing, though, again, he prefers the left wing to the right. Technically extremely gifted, Suarez possesses excellent ball control and is a very accurate passer. He excels at leading the play and his ball-skills make him very dangerous on the counter attack. Throughout his young career he has also showed he can be a threat from set-pieces.
