Brazilian midfielder Casemiro's late header gave Real Madrid a 2-1 victory at Las Palmas where Sergio Ramos was sent off for the 20th time in his career. Captain Ramos had put Madrid in front midway through the first half by heading home a corner from Isco, but Las Palmas looked to have grabbed a point when top scorer Willian Jose pounced on an error from Mateo Kovacic after 87 minutes.

Athletic Bilbao kept up their impressive run of form by beating Real Betis 3-1 at San Mames to stay in the fight for the fourth Champions League place in the Primera Division. Sabin Merino scored either side of half-time to compensate for the absence of top scorer Aritz Aduriz, who started on the bench.
