The tournament is being held in COVID-hit Brazil
Lionel Messi is said to be in touch with his friend and former FC Barcelona teammate, Luis Suárez, about the chaotic situation surrounding the Copa América.
The tournament is supposed to be hit in COVID-hit Brazil, this after the original hosts, Colombia and Argentina, pulled out due to problems with high rate of the virus.
The Brazilian squad is said to be boycotting the tournament, which could pose a huge problem for the event’s organizers. Messi has reportedly been in touch with Suárez, one of the most famous South American players in the world and massively influential in the Uruguayan locker room.
The report says el Pistolero informed Messi that Uruguay would not lead a movement to stop the tournament from being played.

The Brazilian national team is said to be calling other teams to convince them to boycott the tournament if it is still held in Brazil. The dressing room could fear they will be scapegoated as insensitive for being forced to play the tournament while their homeland suffers.
It is expected that Casemiro, Brazil’s captain, will publicly announce the team’s opposition to playing. Brazil’s coach, Tite, is said to be sympathetic to the players’ request. What could follow is a public conflict with the Brazilian Football Federation and its president, Rogerio Caboclo.
