Another player who doesn’t want to leave
Martin Braithwaite’s future at Barcelona has been the subject of much speculation this summer, but the latest update suggests the Denmark international has joined the growing list of players who simply don’t want to leave the Camp Nou.
Barcelona have brought in four players already this summer in the shape of Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, Emerson Royal, and Memphis Depay but are yet to confirm any exits at all.
Braithwaite’s name had seemed fairly near the top of the club’s for sale list particularly after the arrival of Aguero and Depay and with Ansu Fati expected back in time for the start of the 2021-22 season after injury.
Yet the Denmark international’s “intention” is to continue fighting for his place at Barcelona despite interest from the Premier League. West Ham United are said to be keen on the 30-year-old, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Braithwaite has a contract until 2024 and is said to be “not considering” leaving the Camp Nou, “feels strong,” and also “believes that he can contribute different things to the Barça attack.”
The loss of Ousmane Dembele to another long-term injury, the Frenchman will undergo surgery on Monday, also seems to be contributing to Braithwaite’s desire to stay with the Catalan giants.
Of course, it’s not clear if Braithwaite will be granted his wish and stay on for another campaign. Barca are obviously keen to trim the squad to raise funds but also need to cut the wage bill to comply with La Liga rules.
