The World Cup winners are moving on
The Euro 2020 group stage has come to an end, with the conclusion of the Group of Death as exciting as it could be, and Antoine Griezmann and France have come out on top thanks to a 2-2 draw against Portugal in Budapest.
The rematch from the Euro 2016 Final was a tight, physical affair with not a lot of chances early on, and referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz was one of the stars of the show, awarding three penalties in the game. Two of them were for Portugal, both converted by Cristiano Ronaldo, and the other was for France which was scored by Karim Benzema.
Benzema scored the best goal of the match, the only one from open play and a goal made by a breathtaking assist from Paul Pogba.

That goal put France ahead before Ronaldo equalized with his second penalty, and the final minutes were dominated by the French who came very close to the third, with Griezmann one of the two men stopped by a ridiculous double save by Rui Patrício.

The draw confirmed France as group winners, and they are joined in the Round of 16 by Germany who had to wait until the 84th minute to escape with a 2-2 draw against Hungary to finish second, while Portugal finish third.
The Round of 16 is set with several exceptional matchups to look forward to, and four of the eight games will feature Barcelona players. Here is the full Round of 16 slate:
