The forward’s thinking about the future

Antoine Griezmann has confirmed his intention to head to Major League Soccer once his contract with Barcelona expires.

The France international still has three years left on his deal with the Catalan giants but says afterwards he’s keen on a move to the United States.

“My contract with Barcelona runs until June 2024 and after that I think it will be the right time to go to the United States.

“I love this country, the culture, the NBA and the desire for adventure attracts me, but I also have a family that I would have to move out there.

“I would like to end my career there but still be good enough on the pitch and win MLS, instead of coming in with nothing to give and looking like nothing on the pitch. That wouldn’t make sense.”

This is not the first time that Griezmann has spoken about the possibility of moving to MLS and he could be joined by Lionel Messi if rumors the captain fancies a spell with Inter Miami in the future prove true.

There’s been speculation that Barcelona would be willing to sell Griezmann, or Ousmane Dembele, this summer if the right offer arrived.

Certainly some attackers may need to be offloaded following the arrivals of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay and with Ansu Fati set to return from injury.
