The Spanish manager is happy with Busquets’s recovery from a positive coronavirus test

Sergio Busquets is back with the Spanish national team after a positive COVID test which has forced him to miss the European Championship to this point.

Spain boss Luis Enrique was optimistic in addressing the player’s condition, while not committing to whether he’d be available so soon after joining back up.

“He has been training alone at home and respecting the COVID restrictions,” Luis Enrique said.

Despite being able to work out at home only, Busquets has been monitored via GPS data. Luis Enrique confirmed that the GPS data sent by Busquets showed he was doing what he was asked to stay in shape.

“The GPS that he has sent us reflects that Busquets is in top shape, so I will assess with the staff if we will include him in the squad of 23. But the most important thing is he’s back.”

Luis Enrique’s men are looking for their first win after a 0-0 draw with Sweden, in which they controlled the game but could not find the back of the net.

The manager seemed overjoyed to have Busquets back, calling him “a very important reinforcement for everyone.”

“He is the captain and has deep significance in the team,” he said.

“He has been asymptomatic and has been able to train at his home. He should be in a position to participate.”

Spain play Poland tomorrow.
