The Dutchman has admitted he’s had his ups and downs
Memphis Depay produced a goal and an assist in the Netherlands’ Euro 2020 win over North Macedonia on Monday and spoke about his move to Barcelona after the match.
The forward has played for PSG, Manchester United and Lyon so far in his senior career and sealed a move to the Camp Nou at the weekend.
Depay acknowledged that his career has not always gone smoothly but thinks he is on the right track now and is looking forward to life with the Catalans.
“In my career there have always been ups and downs, good and bad moments, and all that makes you learn. That is why I think that arriving at Barça is a great step forward in my career.”
Manager Ronald Koeman is also pleased Barca have finally managed to land Memphis after coming close to a move last summer before the deal eventually broke down.
He told reporters, “He’s a very good signing, as are Kun and Eric Garcia. The rest, well, like all teams we’re working to reinforce the squad.”
Depay and the Netherlands now head into the last 16 at Euro 2020 and are in good shape after topping Group C with maximum points from their three games.
