The forward has withdrawn from the France squad
Ousmane Dembele’s Euro 2020 campaign is over after the Barcelona forward was forced to pull out of the tournament after picking up an injury in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hungary.
The forward came on as a substitute in the game but was replaced late on. Manager Didier Deschamps confirmed after the match it was a knee tendon problem.
Initial reports suggested he may just miss the Portugal game on Wednesday, but it’s now been confirmed his tournament is over and he’s left the France squad.

It’s been suggested that France will not call up a replacement, but Les Bleus hardly lack for attacking options and have a squad packed full of quality. Indeed Dembele only made two substitute appearances against Germany and Hungary.
It’s not yet clear how serious Dembele’s injury is or how long he might be out for and there are conflicting reports flying about. Catalunya Radio are going for about three weeks, while Santi Ovalle at Cadena SER is going for two months.
Barcelona are due back for pre-season medical checks on July 9 ahead of the first training session on July 12, while the new season is due to kick-off on 14-15 August.
The injury will be a big blow to Dembele who had largely managed to put his injury problems aside last season and feature regularly for Barcelona. It could also affect his future with Dembele out of contract next summer. Barca reportedly want to extend his contract but will sell if he doesn’t sign on.
