It's gone longer than the Namek saga, and there are probably twists and turns yet.
According to the latest information from Francesc Aguilar, one of the most important journalists from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have, for the moment at least, given up on Juventus's Paul Pogba.
Apparently, Pogba, who was courted by basically every team in the world, had chosen Barcelona, and Barça were in for the French star.
However, things have changed for two reasons. First, Barcelona and Luis Enrique feel that they may not need a midfielder at all. There's no way Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta or Arda Turan would leave, is there? Or even Sergi Roberto and Rafinha, right?
Adding to that, Alen Halilovic and Denis Suarez are coming back on loan, and you'd expect Sergi Samper to be promoted.
It makes more sense then to upgrade the centerbacks, where Marc Bartra or Javier Mascherano might leave and Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu probably do not convince as starters. And speaking of Mathieu, how about reinforcing with another left-back, especially as Adriano is set to leave? Or how about bringing a backup forward as Nolito never came?
Which brings us to the next point, money. Basically Barça have money, but the bidding war for Pogba will be intense and probably go over budget.
Now, all of this could be false anyway for all we know, but at least the logic is sound if you ask me. Pogba is definitely an exciting player, but the team has other worries and has already sunk most of their money on a star-studded front-three. Maybe it's better to just strengthen the squad overall rather than break the bank for one big star?
