The Boss will play the Santiago Bernabeu at the time Barcelona and Sevilla hoped to play the Copa del Rey final. Here's a sneak peak at his setlist.
Bruce Springsteen will play a concert at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium on May 21st, one of the two dates for the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Sevilla. Thus, the Bernabeu is ruled out as a possible venue for the final.
Sevilla, Barcelona, and the Spanish Federation had come out saying the Bernabeu was the ideal setting for the match, but Real Madrid refused the request.
Interviewer: What does it mean to you and your players that Springsteen will play the Santiago Bernabeu at the same time as the cup final?
Luis Enrique: That we won't be able to catch the show.
This is why the venue for the final should be decided in advance, before the tournament, to prevent teams from refusing to lend their venue on the grounds that they don't like the teams playing it.
While it is petty of Real Madrid to do this, it's within their rights. The same goes for Barcelona. The best thing to do is to avoid the whole thing. (What's especially funny is that no cup matches will be played at the Bernabeu this season, as Real Madrid were eliminated in only one game due to the Denis Cheryshev incident.)
Luis Enrique might not be able to watch The Boss, but we will give you a preview of the songs Sprinsteen's going to do for his special Bernabeu show.*
