Official: Vicente Calderón Stadium to host 2016 Copa del Rey Final

The soap opera is finally over, and the Spanish Cup deciding match now has a venue.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday that the Vicente Calderón Stadium, home of La Liga giants Atlético Madrid, has been chosen to host the Copa del Rey Final between Barcelona and Sevilla, on May 22. After weeks of uncertainty, an official decision has finally been made, and the final will be played in La Capital.

However, both clubs were pushing for the game to happen at the other major Madrid stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu, home of Real Madrid, but Los Blancos blocked the move from the start and even scheduled a Bruce Springsteen concert on May 21st to avoid any chances of the match being played at their ground.

Even though Barça and Sevilla fans will not be able to whistle the Spanish anthem at the Bernabéu, which would be the best trolling move of 2016, they still can do it in Madrid. Plus, the Calderón is one of the best stadiums in Europe, and the atmosphere will certainly be amazing.

This news also brings back great memories for Blaugrana fans: it was at the Vicente Calderón, in 2012, that Pep Guardiola coached his final Barcelona game. That was also a Copa del Rey Final, against Athletic Bilbao, and the Catalan giants won 3-0 in dominant fashion to end the Guardiola Era in the perfect way.

Hopefully this year's final also ends with a title, which could be one piece of another Treble.
