La Liga News: 22 February 2016; Real Madrid, Atlético nearly out of title race

Real Madrid’s hopes of a first La Liga title since 2012 took a huge blow as Malaga held out for a deserved 1-1 draw at La Rosaleda on Sunday.
Los Blancos fell nine points behind League leaders Barcelona, who in turn defeated Las Palmas a day before, as they were unable to come back from Raul Albentosa’s equaliser at La Rosaleda, and the defender conceded his team could ill-afford another negative result.
Los Blancos fell nine points behind Barcelona at the League summit as Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener and missed penalty was cancelled out by Raul Albentosa midway through the second half at La Rosaleda, but the Coach made it clear his side could yet pip the Catalans to the title.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial opener was followed by a penalty miss from the forward and a Periquitos equaliser in the second half via Raul Albentosa to leave Los Blancos nine points behind League leaders Barcelona, but the Brazilian insisted his team were ready to overcome the setback.
Los Colchoneros missed the chance to move three points clear of Real Madrid in the title race after they unable to break down the Yellow Submarine, but the Coach took consolation from his side staying six ahead of their opponents in second and their arch-rivals also failing to win.
The forward came off worse for wear from a clash with Yuri Berchiche in the 37th minute, and Los Leones’ official website has confirmed that the player suffered a “left ankle sprain”.
Goals from Dani Parejo and Santi Mina extended Los Che’s winning run to three games and moved the side to within seven points of the Europa League places, and the Englishman felt the victory signalled a “change in the mood of the dressing room”.
