Barcelona have reached an unbelievable thirtieth consecutive game without a loss, as the Blaugrana destroyed Celta Vigo on Sunday night with a 6-1 victory, thanks to goals from Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez (3), Neymar Jr. and Ivan Rakitic, with John Guidetti scoring for the visitors. Against a tough opponent, individual brilliance by the best player in the world gave the Catalan giants another victory to stay at the top of La Liga and extend their spectacular, record-breaking streak.
FIRST HALF
From the start, the match was difficult. The Galegos went forward and pressurized the ball high up the pitch, troubling the Blaugrana's buildup play and forcing them into uncomfortable long balls. When the hosts could have the ball in better positions, they lacked precision and accuracy in passes and shots, and many players had subpar performances.
The only one up to his usual standards was Lionel Messi, and he showcased it with a phenomenal free-kick that went to the top corner, broke the deadlock and finally gave Barça the lead. After scoring, the Blaugranes showed some improvement, and looked set to create a second goal. But Jordi Alba made a mistake, lost a ball to Guidetti inside the box and committed a silly penalty, which the Celta striker didn't fail to capitalize. All equal at the Camp Nou.
At halftime, Barça needed to get better as a group if they wanted to win.
SECOND HALF
They did. The whole team look better from the start of the second half, pinned Celta inside the box, and started to create one dangerous chance after another. And Messi happened again. Suárez started a one-two with the Argentine, who played a sensational lob to El Pistolero, who finished beautifully to give Barça the lead again.
With the lead, came control of the game, and Messi continued to show his magic. A great run through the defense and a fine pass by the Argentine found a wide-open Neymar, who rounded the keeper and attempted a shot that was deflected and fell to Suárez, who scored his second of the game.
And then, Messi did the impossible. After a ridiculous individual play, he won a penalty. And PASSED HIS PENALTY KICK to Suárez, who came running into the box and completed his hat-trick.
There was more to come. Suárez found Rakitic alone in the box, and the Croatian midfielder chipped the keeper to score Barça's fifth. Suárez was at it again, with a fantastic long ball to Neymar, who calmly finished to score the final goal.
In the end, a ridiculous victory led by the world's best player. Thirty straight matches without losing, and a big lead in the league. What a night.
