The best player in the history of La Liga has finally been recognized.
Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has won the Player of the Month award for his performances in January. With six goals in six matches last month, the Argentine playmaker was the star of a great 30-day period for the league leaders, who reclaimed the top spot in the table and opened a huge gap over the other title contenders.
After missing two months with a knee injury at the beginning of the season, Messi finally looks like himself again, and his January performances were certainly deserving of recognition, since he was by far the best player in Spain last month, with perhaps only Luis Suárez close to his level.
The curious, and frankly unbelievable thing about this news is that it's the first time that Messi gets a nod in the three-year history of the Player of the Month award. It's safe to say he was the best player in La Liga in other months, as well.
But hey, ask the voters. They'll know why. Maybe.
