As far as sporting spectacles go, the best team in a league facing off against the worst is never a huge draw; there's not really enough of the underdog narrative to play off of, purely because that team is good enough to be in the league in the first place, they're just not good enough to stick around for much longer. Nor is there any real satisfaction to seeing the good team utterly stomp all over the other one, at least for neutrals and TV companies.
Ergo, is it really any surprise that Barcelona have been moved what is essentially the graveyard slot this week for their match against Levante UD? While Cules in America are surely cursing the ridiculous kick-off hour, those of us in Europe are probably somewhat grateful for the opportunity to catch the game earlier than usual, see what we know is going to happen anyway, then be liberated get on with the rest of our day.
As some will no doubt continue to complain about the early kick-off, think of the positives; the club could always use extra money and hey presto, we're in the prime slot for the lucrative and as yet untapped Eastern Asian market. I can't be sure, but maybe they'll enjoy us thrashing Levante and invest some money into the club?
I mean, we are going to beat Levante with ease, right?
Our recent stretch of form would suggest as much, but if the players are even half as complacent as me, we might have a problem. Levante have quality, particularly in attack with the signing of Giuseppe Rossi, and with the home crowd and an unusual kick-off time in their favour, anything can happen in football. Barcelona need to be professional, and with Atletico Madrid defeating Eibar, they need the win as well to retain that cushion they've built for themselves at the top.
