Worry not, Barcelona fans. The best midfielder in the world is not looking to leave anytime soon.
Sergio Busquets, who made headlines last week by saying that Pep Guardiola, new coach of Manchester City, could lure him into moving away from the Catalan giants, is not interested in leaving his club. In fact, Busquets and his agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, have already approached president Bartomeu to start negotiations for a contract extension.
President Bartomeu wants to wait until the club is guaranteed a new sponsor contract and an extension with Nike, and according to sources, those two deals are set to be closed in the upcoming weeks. With those issues out of the way, the board will finally focus on signing Busquets to a lucrative new deal, that will pay him the same amount as Gerard Piqué and Andrés Iniesta, who have the richest non-MSN contracts in the squad.
Busquets is concerned that if the club takes too long to start negotiating a new deal for him, the summer will come and the board will focus on buying and selling instead of renewing current contracts. Sergio wants an extension before the summer and the big clubs come for him with huge, attracting offers to leave Catalonia.
We still have roughly five months to get Busi a new deal. With sponsorship issues being sorted out, five months should be more than enough to ensure that one of the best players on the planet stays. You're on the clock, Bartomeu.
